OVERVIEW
A marvel of a call, and one of the most original and majestic designs we've seen.
Sure shot correctly dubbed this one The "Imperial Crow Call". And rightly so! Not only does it look the part, with it's uniquely shaped fluted end. It emits more then enough crow for anyone. SOUND
The voice of the call is well represented. Loud and able to replicate a crow quite well.
I am impressed with the overall accuracy of it. Sure shot did it right with it's Imperial Crow Call.
It has the range you want for calling far off crows, but for the accuracy of a crow's voice their "Sure-Shot Crow Call" provides a more realistic representation. CRAFTSMANSHIP
Standing tall and shaped from a large piece of Black Walnut. It has a stately presence.
The long taper which ends in a large flared mouth is smooth and lipped with a large clean bevel. It's something to gander at. The wood is solid and light weight, a lot lighter then expected for it's size. The hollow is quite large and impressive. Most call barrel chambers are no where near as large. This was done to undoubtedly aid in projecting the sound. Groove lines and cuts are crisp and without error. The typical lanyard ring is present. The wood itself is clean and free of cracks, splits, burrs, and significant dings. The mouthpiece is rather small and plastic, with the standard synthetic reed material. But it's fitted firm and tight with no cracks present at the base where inserted.
The finish of the call is a flat non glossy finish. There is a sheen, quite similar to a lightly buffed wax. It shows off the walnut very naturally, and I rather like it in comparison to the high gloss that is commonly seen applied to calls.
The Sure-Shot
name is deeply etched into the wood barrel along with a model number. No serial number is present. It's a simple yet fetching piece for any collection.
FEATURES & HANDELING
The best feature of this call is it's large open fluted mouth. Very unlike any other crow call currently reviewed. The mouthpiece insert is a bit small for my taste though, my lips touch the wood base at the back of the call. The hard straight cut of the wood feels uncomfortable on the lips when using it.
The lanyard ring is grooved well and deep. And you'll have no issues with latching one on without slipping.
The call is large and fits well enough in your hand, easily used and operated.
