Wood Wise, a strong competitor in the call making busines, creates their goods out of Franklin, TN.
Manufacturer of fine game call products.

OVERVIEW
Woodwise has sent us their "Crow Magnum" call.
A rather rough looking call, like something hewn out of a log using primitive tools!

SOUND
The "Crow Magnum" has a lot of rasp! Enough to vibrate your knickers clean off!
The sound is close to realistic, but a bit too raspy perhaps. More suitable for mature crows, you know, the ones with chest congestion? Kidding aside, It lacks richness in the voice, and can come accross slighly artifical. But still retains the crow likeness it needs. Very smart crows may not be fooled, but with proper calling techniue you can get the crows to react. The more you use it, the more you'll get your own tone adjusted to the call. The volume of the sound is above average and capable of producing quite a loud blast. The mouthpiece really couldn't be adjusted much do to the design, but I managed to get the mouthpiece out. I pushed the reed tightly in, as far as possible towards the blowing end, which got the call sounding better. Sometimes in shipping these things wiggle out of position.
This call can be your casual friend in the field or pull double duty as a locator call. As a turkey locator, no problem there! I have no serious complaignts about this call But we do see a few areas can be improved. The barrel design could be designed slightly better for a more robust sound, and the mouthpiece I feel has a lot to due with the lack of richness or naturalness in the reproduction. But this call does have character. nd it's character makes it unique.

CRAFTSMANSHIP
The rough exterior of this call gives you an instant "not afaid to use it feel". Nicks and dings, there are a few, didn't seem too much out of place.
The finish is light, almost as if there is none, which shows off the natural wood. I'm serious when I say it looks like it was made with a sawblade! It's that rustic and edgy! The body dosen't display much lots of details, but the shape overall isn't terrible. We actually like the angular style and edges of the upper body. A nice change from the rounded smooth edges you normall see, so points for being different. We like different, just not ugly different. Overall however the chips, nicks, and imperfections must be noted, and some people may be put off by it. We didn't care much since the body was already rustic and had an unfinished style to the wood. If this call was like some of those highly friction polished calls we've recieved, then those imperfections would have definitley took on a negetive rating for us.
We think it would be nice if Woodwise beffed up the design a bit by making at least the nose of the call larger instead of tapering down. Also, some work to give the call a simulated distressed look instead of actual manufacturing imperfections of the wood. Color is just a matter of opinion and idividual taste. And we commend Woodwise for going more natural on the finish.

FEATURES & HANDELING
The call has a lanyard groove ring, cut in a "V" shape and looks like it will hold onto your cord effortlessly.
The mouthpiece is a tapered design. With good tooth grips which we do appreciate. They make holding the call in your mouth a lot easier. Very nice flex on the bite down. Which significantly increases comfort when calling. If your calling with no hands, this is absolutely terrific! The body is easy to cup with your hands, and if thats your style of calling, you will like that you can get your hands completely around the body and trumpet end together. Extremely easy to blow, and very sensitive. Overall it may not win any beauty pagent, but it will get the job done! And you won't worry if you drop it acidentally.
